Ceclia Smoglie, director of the Mechnanical Engineering Department at Instituto Tecnologico de Buenos Aires, visited the Lab as part of her visit to Georgia Tech to promote exchanges between the two universities. Monday, June 26, 2000Three visitors from Siemens Corporate Research in Princeton visited the Lab as part of a visit to Georgia Tech to find out more about capabilities in the area of manufacturing. They included Dr. Dilip Soni, Dr. William Landi and Dr. Xiping Song. Monday - Wednesday, December 18 - 20, 2000The Keck Lab hosted a visit to Georgia Tech by representatives of GINTIC Manufactuirng Institute, including Dr. U Yee Hsun, Director, Division of Manufacturing Information Technology Division, Mr. Goh Kia Mok, Group Manager, Manufacturing Planning and Scheduling, and Dr. Peter Lendermann. 1999 Friday, January 21, 1999Twenty students from Prof. Jane Ammons' ISyE 6540 class visitied the Lab. The students are doing a lab assignment this quarter to configure a "virtual model" of an assembly machine to minimize its cycle time. Thursday, February 4, 1999Prof. Dah-Chuan Gong, chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering at Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan, visited the Lab. Prof. Gong is an alumnus of ISyE at Georgia Tech. Wednesday, February 24, 1999Twenty-eight students from Prof. Jerry Banks' ISyE 4898 class, Hot Topics in Industrial Engineering, visited the Lab for a tour and demonstration. Tuesday, March 16, 1999Prof. Teck-Seng Low visitied the Lab during his visit to Georgia Tech and ISyE. Prof. Low is Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the National University of Singapore. Thursday, March 18, 1999Joshua Pas, a prospective IE graduate student visiting the department from Purdue, stopped by to visit the Lab. Jim Moore and Frank Taylor from Ford Motor Company visted the Lab during their stay at Georgia Tech announcing Ford's grant to the Institute. Friday, March 26, 1999Mr. Tom Joyce, Dr. Kris Lehman and Ms. Karly Bialkowski of Meritor Automotive visited the Lab as part of a visit to Georgia Tech. Meritor is a supplier of automotive components and was formerly part of Rockwell. Mr. Joyce is vice president and treasurer; Dr. Lehman is manager of college relations, and Ms. Bialkowski is a college relations specialist. Monday, April 5, 1999Mr. Howard Fleisig and his son Charlie Fleisig visited the Lab. Mr. Fleisig is a Georgia Tech alumnus (IMGT '72), and his son is thinking about attending Tech and enrolling in IE. Friday, April 9, 1999A number of visiting faculty from schools that are members of the Global Engineering Education Exchange (Global E3) visited the Lab. Formed four years ago, Global E3 is a consortium of schools to which Georgia Tech belongs. It primarily coordinates undergraduate student exchange programs. The visitors included:

Wednesday, April 14, 1999Dr. Enui Park and Dr. Bala Ram (from North Carolina A&T) and Dr. Gary Rubloff and Dr. Jeffrey Herrmann (from the University of Maryland's Institute for Systems Research) visited the Lab. They were hosted by Dr. Marc Goetschalckx. Thursday, April 22, 1999Several reprentatives from The William Carter Company visited the Lab to find out more about its activities and projects. Attendees included Scott Posey, director of logistics engineering, Dave Foy, director of manufacturing enginering, David Richard, industrial engineering manager, and Colin McLachlan, technical services manager. Thursday, May 13, 1999Six students from Alpha Pi Mu, the IE honor society, visited the Lab to find out more anout the research and educational activities conducted here. Friday, May 14, 1999Dr. Jimmie McEver from RAND Corp. visited the Lab as part of a visit to Georgia Tech. Tuesday, May 18, 1999The Keck Lab hosted an "open house" for students and faculty from ISyE and other departments. Approximately 20 attendees watched presentations on the Lab and its current projects, and then came into the Lab and saw demos on the work being done. The two main demos were the Contol of Flexible Automation project, featuring the Lab's robot cell, and the Integrated Warehouse Design Tools project. They were visiting Georgia Tech and were guided by an undergraduate industrial engineering student. Wednesday, July 15, 1998Dale Atkins brought twelve attendees from a Logistics Institute short course for a demonstration in the Virtual Factory Lab. The group, from Siemens, was attending a short course titled "'Strategic' Business, Logictics and Manufacturing Systems." Tuesday, December 1, 1998Ms. Jane Gaboury, editor of IIE Solutions, toured the lab while on a visit to the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. She was hosted by Prof. Jerry Banks. Tuesday, December 8, 1998Heinz Weigl, simulationist from EASL Solutions in Vienna, Austria, visited the lab. Thursday, December 17, 1998The Lab hosted the first warehouse roundtable discussion group, with a number of attendees from industry. Davis.of the General Engineering Department at the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign, visited the Virtual Factory Lab. Prof. Davis is director of the Manufactuirng Systems Lab at UIUC. He showed a web-based manufacturing simulation application developed at UIUC. Wednesday, December 10, 1997Dr. Sanjay Jain, Group Manager of Systems Technology Division at the GINTIC Institute of Manufacturing Technology in Singapore and Dr. Stephen Turner, senior lecturer at the University of Exeter in the U.K., visited the Virtual Factory Lab. Dr. Jain gave a seminar titled "Parallel and Distributed Simulation for Virtual Factory Implementation." |
